Kudos To The Aphasia Center

BEST and I took our first road trip to Austin. We shopped and ate everywhere between Midland and Austin and had tons of fun. We even managed a quick trip to the Spa at Lake Austin, courtesy of PARTNER.
I was able to visit ONLY and catch up on her growing vocabulary and cognitive abilities. She was so proud of herself when she accomplished a new task or mastered a new word and frustrated when she couldn't communicate her desires.
I couldn't help but think about the clients of the Aphasia Center of West Texas. After a stroke or other head trauma, they still possess all the knowledge they had prior to the catastrophic event, but have lost the ability to freely communicate that knowledge. The Center provides them with new communication skills, greater independence and companionship.
Just as a child is supported by her family, so are the clients of the Aphasia Center nurtured by an energetic and caring group. The dedicated staff has been selected recipients of the Nonprofit Management Center's prestigious Beacon Award. Congratulations to all the staff and volunteers who make the Aphasia Center of West Texas such a premier facility.
