There's a good chance you might be an old woman if..

1. Your car is a Pontiac, Cadillac or Lincoln sedan.

2. Your choice of pet is a small dog who sits on your lap while you drive.

3. If your hair, dog and car are all the same color: either blond, white or grey.

My thought for the day is, save me from this fate.

What I've Been Reading Lately

Lucky Jim bu Kingsley Amis. This 1953 book details the life of Jim, who seems to fall from one bad circumstance to another. At times full of humor and very annoying characters, I think it was directed at an audience other than myself.
The Strange Fate of Kitty Easton by Elizabeth Speller. Another great Speller mystery.
The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon. This novel won a Pulitzer Prize and chronicles comic book history. At times the author got so carried away imparting information that there would be pages of explanation between single lines of conversation. An interesting tale that took too long to tell.
More Ketchup Than Salsa by Joe Cawley. Ever thought of pitching it all in to live on an island and run a bar? Read this novel first.
Mr. churchill's Secretary and Princess Elizabeth's Spy by Susan Elia MacNeal. Fun, continuing mystery set during WWII. Read these in order.
Miss Buncle's Book and Miss Buncle Maried by D. E. Stevenson. I enjoyed both of this books written in the early 1900's. See what happens when a town full of characters become the actual characters in a novel.
Crazy Little Thing by Tracy Brogan. Divorce, romance, the beach and throw in some lovable gay characters to get the book du jour.
Watching Willow Watts by Talli Roland. Mindless entertainment and perfect for some down-time.
There's a Slight Chance That I Might be Going To Hell by Laurie Notard. If you can get past the one-liners in this book, it will give you a chuckle. It gets better as it progresses.
The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton. I think this book is too long, but it is a clever mystery/love story that bounces between the present and WWI. Add this one to your list.
The Runaway Princess by Hester Browne. This was not Hester's best, but still amusing and time killing read.
Kill the Competition by Stephanie Bond. You can pretty much count on a Bond book to provide you with a bit of romance and mystery. Check out what is going on with this Atlanta carpool.
Mapp and Lucia by E.F. Benson. I read the entire series of these books. Don't expect too much action...lots of conversation and back-stabbing in English villages.
Better Off Without Him by Dee Ernst. Ho-hum..the hubby walks out leaving the writer and kids to fend for themselves. Enter the sexy plumber.
100 year Old Man Who Climbed out of the Window by Jonas Jonasson. I can't tell you anything about this book without spoiling the story...just read it. I give it a big thumbs-up!
Masked Ball at Broxley Manor by Rhys Bowen. This is a rather short prequel to the Georgina series, but worth the read. Can't wait for the new book in the series due out in Novermber. I love Georgina!
Valeria's Last Stand by Marc Fitten. ARe you ready for the love life of the elderly residing in a remote Hungarian village? It was a little crazy, but not half bad.
This One's Mine by Maria Semple. After reading Where'd You Go Bernadette, I was prepared to love this book, but it left me just wishing it was over...very annoying characters and pathetic story line.
Chickens, Mules and Two Old Fools and Ole by Victoria Twead. This is another case of buying two books at once and maybe wishing you hadn't purchased either. These folks sort of grow on you after a while, but I wouldn't recommend these tales of moving to Spain.
Where'd You Go Bernadette by Maria Semple. This is a big winner! It is cleverly written. You will LOVE the mom and daughter and howl at the foibles of the extra cast. There are times when it seemed like this book could turn depressing, but it doesn't! You will be happily entertained and sorry when you've finished the book. Don't plan on getting anything done once you start reading. I can't say enough good things about this novel.
